Beyond the 4 Walls transition project

During the Summer term, we partnered with Beyond the 4 Walls to deliver a 10-week transition programme for Year 6 pupils our Coaches have been supporting at Mansel Primary, helping them prepare for their move to Yewlands Academy in September.

Each week, pupils stepped outside the classroom and into nature - building confidence, reducing stress, and forming meaningful social connections. Activities included visits to the Peak District, forest skills, team challenges, cycling, and even time to unwind in hammocks.

With secondary staff joining sessions, pupils began forming relationships and gaining a better understanding of what to expect in Year 7, making the transition feel less daunting.

For many, it was a journey of “firsts”: first time on a train, seeing wildlife, or riding a bike. By the end, the growth was remarkable, some children were described as “completely different” from when they began.
